Loyola Memorial Park

A very special space as a final resting place for a loved one. Planar elements are positioned as simple projections to encapsulate a void and create volumes. By using a simple four-post steel frame system, board formed concrete panels are made to float as a contrast to its heavy nature. The importance of materiality is showcased by ensuring the honest use of concrete, steel, and glass. By exuding the natural properties of these materials, it gives the space an aura of rawness, calmness, and peace. Because of the unique methodology of construction, every detail is properly designed and coordinated, to ensure a seamless, uncluttered space both in and out of the space.

On entry, one will be greeted by a brise soleil system of masonry blocks that filter the light coming in to the space, as well as giving privacy to the interior. Once you enter, you will be greeted by a double height space flooded with natural light, a signifier of hope and love that is shared by everyone in the space. A loft is accessed by the stairs hidden by an interior structural panel, which also houses the powder room. The warmth of wood laminate accents from the windows and doors give a good contrast from the coldness of the concrete panels. In addition, a plant box is specifically placed on the loft area to add an element of growth that will thrive through time.
