Arkitekturang Pilipino Book Citation

We are cited as part of a history book! A very small portion but a great honor nonetheless.

Grateful to Sir Gerard Lico for including Coach Residence as a testament to our re-explorations of the common and the conventional.

.

We are ecstatic to be cited on the same spread as our principal’s design mentor, Joey Yupangco and Cebu master Alex Medalla.

Top 5 for Anthology x Lotus Design Competition 2019

Our proposal is a critique of the events place typology, which places huge structures on surface level, creating a cage of private activities, thereby missing the opportunity for a more spontaneous public engagement.

.

Tangway creates a porous surface level by submerging the building mass and creating fluid connectors from the ground towards the deck of the pavilion. This strategy reclaims the public realm over a private structure without disturbing the different functions. The landmark structure of this development is not a typical huge building, but a light, floating roof that creates an artificial canopy over the park to attract activities throughout the day.

BluPrint's Design Better Book

We are proud to be part of more than a hundred architects, designers, and thinkers that are united in envisioning alternate realities that could help make our cities better today.

One of 25 featured projects, we explore possible synergies that could breathe in new life to the abandoned and underutilized blocks of the city of Lucena in Quezon.

Culture of Design

The existence of urban decay is a natural phenomenon that happens due to outward expansion of cities. It threatens the social, cultural, historical and economical value of the city suffering from it; altering all together the life of the locals residing in the area. It is for this reason that the elements formulated by the PPP namely connectivity, sociability, comfort, variety of use, and sustainability – the indispensable factors that define the characteristics of places that flourish – served as the key foundations in redesigning the city of Lucena. The research has garnered fruitful results as it provided an in-depth calculation of the overall improvement of the situation of Lucena and the opportunities it now holds for its locals. This study has produced several schemes and guidelines with the ambition to instill a culture of design that is not limited to demolishing structures in order to build from scratch, rather, one that is strongly grounded on sustainable, eco-friendly and community-oriented techniques that adapt to what is already existing instead of alter it altogether. This study aims to inspire future revitalization projects to follow suit with the proposed schemes and guidelines as anchors.

UAP Natcon 43

One of the speakers at the 43rd UAP National Convention entitled Shift. A discussion on Parametric Thinking and Architecture in front of an unprecedented 4,000 architect attendees.

Abstract:

Could we be seeing the eclipse of modernism, as its former hegemonic style is obscured by a radical global architectural style called Parametricism?  How different is this from parametrics? With the shifting from mass production to mass customization, we now bear witness to the evolution of a style so alien to many of us. Gone are the days when computers were merely transcoders of our physical reality but instead our realm is starting to transmogrify with multi-agent computational systems, mathematical algorithms and robotic fabrications.

The post information age is rapidly creeping into the world of architecture; will this save the profession from obsolescence or completely eradicate it? This polarizing topic brings about questions of relevancy to the design discipline.

How does the Filipino architect fare in this realm?  Are we capable of compelling ourselves radically towards this direction, if only to run alongside this shift?  What edge do those among us who have started to practice it have over those who have no idea about it?

MADE Guesting

Quick TV guesting on Bloomberg Philippines for 2016 MADE Architecture Competition Search with Mr. Henri Palma of Metrobank Foundation Inc. I briefly discussed our winning entry "Sibol" for 2015. Hoping for a larger base of architects to join this year and help push Filipino talent and skills to the fore.

2015 MADE Architecture Competition Grand Prize Winner

We recently won the 2015 MADE (Metrobank Art and Design Excellence) Architecture Competition with our entry Sibol. We are deeply honored to be chosen by this prestigious foundation as the grand prize winner for this year's round of competitions. With Metrobank Foundation's continuous exploration of Filipino talents amongst the strata of different fields in art and design, it is a strong validation for our studio of the work that we do and continually strive to achieve in every project that we produce.
