TANGWAY

Top 5 Finalist

Anthology x Lotus Design Competition 2019

The proposal is a critique of the events place archetype, which places huge structures on surface level, creating a cage of private activities, thereby missing the opportunity for a more spontaneous public engagement.

Tangway creates a porous surface level by submerging the building mass and creating fluid connectors from the ground towards the deck of the pavilion. This strategy reclaims the public realm over a private structure without disturbing the different functions. The landmark structure of this development is not a typical huge building that interrupts surface porosity but instead, a light, floating roof that creates an artificial canopy that will spur interaction and attract activities throughout the day.

Silang, Cavite has so much growth potential. The development of SLEX-Cavitex Link that will pass thru the town in a few years will spur further economic activities within the region. In order to take full advantage of this, any development should be able to obtain the participation and help from the community. By involving and prioritizing locals’ needs, this will help ensure the success of the project. From the old name of Cavite, Tangway (peninsula), will usher in the development that would further complement this already thriving town into a progressive, and inclusive model community of the future.

There is a lack of community civic spaces not only in Metro Manila, but also in the provinces. Malls have been the default place for leisurely activities instead of parks and recreational spaces. In Silang, there are a number of commercial mall developments that satisfy this need. But, with the relatively cool weather, Silang. has the opportunity to disrupt this trend and spark an outdoor revolution.

Tangway Events Pavilion shall instigate this spur by providing a venue for the community and tourists to interact and network in a neutral environment by blurring the distinction between spaces. The park seamlessly extends to the roof-covered Pavilion to create a seamless transition between spaces. The basement level of the Pavilion provides the private function areas. By providing a park and a covered community space at the surface level, the Pavilion as the initial building together with the Chapel will create substantial foot traffic and interest, not only from the local community but also with neighboring towns as well as Metro Manila. The Pavilion will serve as the catalyst of the whole development for other projects such as the agro-commerce and agri-market facilities, commercial mall and residential towers, destination hotel and hospital to follow suit.
