THE COLLECTIVE

2018 Entry for The Home Competition

We are shifting towards a multi scalar definition of what can be called home. The global trend of living is centered on the individual, prompting an alarming sense of societal isolation. The core concept of The Collective is to showcase that an individual can live independently without being alienated from society. It highlights the benefits of co-sharing, socio-economically and ecologically, that can positively evolve both the system and the individual. . With the continual rise of land value, younger generations wanting to live close to work and the emergence of collaborative spaces, we envision a living unit, broken down to its bare necessities. We are proposing an evolution, where homes will be part of a bigger ecosystem. A private living unit in a continual dialogue of codependence within the community it is in. The living unit is optimized in size for one occupant to inhabit comfortably. Rentable modular plug-ins can be purchased to conform to a user’s lifestyle. There is freedom to decide the necessary or otherwise. The floor of the unit is raised to ensure flexibility of tapping point for utilities. A portion of the unit can be extended, for a per use fee, which gives further flexibility.
